Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy Benefits and Side Effects

For women who have not had an easy time going through menopause, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy can be extremely attractive. Women going through menopause are generally middle aged,
but sometimes it can begin earlier for unknown reasons. Because post menopause symptoms can be extreme, hormone replacement therapy is often used to provide women with much needed relief. There are many reasons to use hormone replacement before, during and after menopause, but you just need to make sure that you are aware of all of the potential side effects.

The biggest benefit of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is that you will have more balanced hormones. Your mood swings and hot flashes should subside shortly after therapy begins. Although there is a chance that you can get too much estrogen, this is generally though to a rare side effect. Many of the other negative side effects of menopause such as excessive hair growth and weakened bones will also be cured with hormone replacement therapy.

In order to reduce the chance of you developing estrogen dominance, you may be prescribed progesterone. This is also a good way to ward off one of the more serious bioidentical hormone replacement therapy – uterine cancer. You may also experience symptoms similar to having a monthly menstrual cycle again, including bleeding and PMS.

Women that have a history of heart attack or heart disease may not want to use bioidentical hormone replacement therapy because it can increase your risk. Low cortisol symptoms can be experienced if you have low body weight. Ultimately, hormone replacement therapy will make you feel like you are no longer going through menopause. If you are in good health and have no problem dealing with these potential disadvantages, you are a great candidate for hormone replacement.

Even if you are not yet going through menopause, there is a chance that your hormones are becoming unbalanced. The older that a woman gets, the lower her estrogen production levels become. You will be less likely to break or fracture a bone during a fall, and you will even be less prone to develop Alzheimer’s as you grow older while using hormone therapy.
